On Sunday, there was the so-called “Family Day” for the exchange students and their German host families. The families and their guests participated in various activities in Augsburg and the surrounding Bavarian area and had the chance to get to know each other.
One group, consisting of German, French, and Slovakian students, visited the museums in Oberschönenfeld, located near Augsburg, to learn about the natural history of the region. Another group went to a Roman museum. Together they enjoyed typical Bavarian specialties in Oberschönenfeld like the famous “Schweinshaxen”, which is pork knuckle.
Some students spent four hours at the indoor swimming hall ‘Titania’ in Neusäß near Augsburg. They had fast food and German Currywurst, a curried sausage, for lunch. Despite the cold weather, they tried both slides and the outdoor area. After returning home, they played video games.
Some other families had fun in the ‘Therme Erding’, the largest indoor swimming hall in the world. They enjoyed about 20 waterslides and had Currywurst with French fries as well. There was also one group who visited the Fuggerei, the oldest social settlement in Europe, located in Augsburg. Afterward, they returned home to eat lasagna before spending three hours bouldering at the ‘Blockhütte’. Some groups even went to the hockey stadium to watch a match between Germany and Slovakia. The match was interesting because two nations taking part in the Erasmus+ were playing against each other.
The teachers went to Munich together where they visited two museums: the ‘Alte Pinakothek’ for ancient art and the ‘Pinakothek der Moderne’ for modern art. They skipped lunch but had dinner at a restaurant in Augsburg.
