Mobility in Augsburg 2024 – Monday

On Monday, all the students and teachers involved in this Erasmus+ Project met at the Jacob-Fugger-Gymnasium ready to start working. The day started with a warm welcome from the headmistress, Mrs. Felber. After that, the German students took their foreign classmates for a tour around their school and showed them rooms like the gym, edu-lab and the library. If you want to get to know a school as a living organism, it is not enough just to see its premises. You have to experience it, so to speak, in medias res, i.e. directly during classes. That is why the pupils, and their teachers became part of school life at least for a while by attending some of the classes. such as English, German as a mother tongue, mathematics. This was done by active participation and involvement in the lessons. Most of the exchange students then said: “We learned how teaching is in German schools.”

After some fun lessons, it was time for the countries´ presentations. During the presentations, we learned how climate change affects different countries and regions, basic information about each school, and what the partner schools do to fulfil the idea of green schools. After that, all participants could take part in quizzes and win some sweet surprises.

In the afternoon, there was time to explore Augsburg. It was not a common guided tour, as it often is. The JFG pupils became tour guides for the afternoon and presented their city to their friends with the help of the online game Action Bound. With their smartphones in their hands, they had to answer questions like e.g.: “Who built the town hall?” or find specific traffic lights, learn about the fountains in the town. In addition to having fun, they not only learned a lot of interesting things about the city, but also did something for their health. For example, more than 17 thousand steps.
