Our journey into the mountains started at 9.09 am on 16 October 2024 at Augsburg main station, where we boarded the regional train to Kempten. We changed trains there and took the next train to Sonthofen. After getting off there, we took a bus, where after a half-hour journey we arrived at a viewing platform. There we met Emma Didier, an expert and ranger from Alpinium, who told us about the animals living in the area, introduced her job, and also accompanied us to the Riedberger Horn. We had a breathtaking view of the Alpine landscape throughout the hike. We saw many different sections of land and realized how diverse nature is in the Alps. We reached our destination and overnight camp, the Wannenkopfhütte, at around 5 pm.
After arriving at the Wannenkopfhütte, we had dinner with a typical Swabian dish called “Kässpatzen” with a beautiful view over the Alps. For dessert we had steamed dumplings with jam, which were very tasty. After that we had a little board game evening, with games like “Schafkopf” or “UNO” and other games. Later we had a little campfire with a pot of punch. As it got darker, some of the German students put on a role play about an old legend from the Alps. The play was called “Wolpertinger and the Irrwurz” and was about “Kasperle and Gretel”, two characters from the “Augsburger Puppenkiste”, a famous theatre from Augsburg, who were trying to find the “Wolpertinger”. Since legends are part of our project work during every mobility, we are already looking for more stories during the next mobilities.
