11 December – International Mountain Day

The United Nations General Assembly designated 11  December as International Mountain Day to raise awareness about the importance of mountains to life. Since 2003, it has been observed annually to emphasize:

  • Natural Resources: Mountains provide essential resources like water, forests, and minerals.
  • Tourism: Mountain regions attract visitors seeking natural beauty and adventure.
  • Agriculture: Special crops such as tea and coffee thrive in mountain environments.

This year’s theme highlights the importance of innovation, adaptation, and the role of youth in creating sustainable solutions for mountain regions.

We are proud that our Erasmus student moblity project aligns perfectly with this theme, tackling climate change in mountain areas. Even more exciting is the focus on youth – all of you participating in this project are key to the future.

With the help of experts, all the participants are exploring the impact of climate change on mountains, and building knowledge and skills to contribute innovative solutions.

On this international day, the students and teachers from partner schools met online in the frame of the international community (event published on official IMD24-website) to celebrate the common project idea.

The German team prepared a video with a legend about their mountains. These legends will form one of the outputs of the project mobilities, showcasing cultural stories from each country. The upcoming tasks for the mobility program in Slovenia have also been discused. We were asked to bring snow samples. Maybe for skiing? Rather not, they will be used for scientific work. We are already looking forward being a part of this adventure.

Let’s work together to build a sustainable future for mountains and beyond!  By moving people, we can eventually move mountains.
