Mobility in Cerklje 2025 – Thursday

After a much-needed rest from the hike, we began the day with breakfast at the mountain hut. Our first activity took place outdoors: avalanche safety training. With the help of instructors, we learned how to use essential rescue equipment, including beacons, probes, and shovels. We practiced locating buried objects under the snow—some were metal or wood, while others represented backpacks or victims. A key lesson was the importance of acting fast: in real avalanche situations, rescuers have just 15 minutes to save a buried person.

Back inside the hut, we took part in a workshop on climate change, focusing on how warming temperatures increase the risk of avalanches and change life in alpine regions. We discussed global climate patterns as well as local attitudes and challenges specific to Slovenia. After a warm and delicious lunch, we packed our things and made the long, slippery descent back down the mountain. Many of us slipped along the way, but laughter made it easier to manage.

Later that evening, some of us visited a grocery store in Cerklje, then gathered at a host family’s house for games, waffles, and pizza (including one with sausage—surprisingly not bad!). After a fun and relaxed evening, we all headed home to rest.
