Mobility in Augsburg 2024 – October 12 and 13 – “Arrival and Family Day”

For three partner schools from Germany, Slovenia and Slovakia, the next Erasmus+ adventure started on Saturday, 12th October 2024. The hosting students and teachers from Augsburg were anxiously awaiting every beep of their phones with messages from their foreign classmates and colleagues with news about their journey. Since they all are responsible EU citizens, they decided on green travelling. Even though they knew what such travelling entails: getting up early in the morning (for Slovaks as early as three o’clock in the morning), works on the railway and subsequent delays, often only a few minutes to change trains (up to four times) and waiting for the next connection, they boldly boardered the train. From Banská Bystrica it took 13 hours and from Cerklje 9 hours to get to Augsburg.
Both groups met then in Munich and travelled together to their final station, where their foreign classmates and parents were waiting for them. But the evening has only just begun. After the pupils had taken their luggage back to their families, they all met for a festive welcome dinner, where the first imaginary barriers could fall away over a delicious traditional meal. It was a very successful evening, with new friendships, anticipation and excitement for the days to come.

Sunday, called Family Day, is always a good time for the students to have fun befor the hard project work begins. On this day, the students had the opportunity not only to get to know their foreign classmates and their families better, but also to get to know the important cultural and historical sights of Bavaria and find out what this country tastes like. Some students visited the Monastery Oberschönenfeld and fed the deers there. Other students took a tour through the beautiful old towns of Augsburg and Munich and ate pizza. A few pupils went to Legoland and went on cool rollercoasters. Some of the students had fun in the so called Bloc Hütte where you can climb in a big hall. They enjoyed handmade Kässpatzen, a German dish with a big portion of cheese, in the evening. Another group went hiking in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and to a summer toboggan run. Full of delicious food and lots of impressions, they fell asleep ready for new project adventures at Jakob-Fugger-Gymnasium.
